Faster render iterations with a clear budget

Short feedback cycles make rendering more efficient. You do not need final-quality output for every decision. Separate the checks. Use a simplified view for composition and lower resolution or fewer samples for early lighting and material work. Reserve final settings for a scene whose main decisions are settled. Find the actual bottleneck: heavy modifiers, large textures, volumes or object count. Reducing everything indiscriminately can damage a close-up without solving the slow part. Keep intermediate images with their important settings. Changing several variables at once makes comparison less useful. For animation, test several representative frames. Noise, reflections and render time can vary substantially across a shot.
